2025 Tesla Robotaxi

This is certainly fair treatment, which the acknowledged Tesla Boy is bestowing upon this autonomous taxi from Waymo. We want to try to do the same with Tesla's robotaxi.

No, we won't be showing any more videos of other Teslaboys looking forward to their first ride in Tesla's robotaxi on that famous Sunday in Austin, Texas, almost like children.

But there will be one or two facts whose accuracy you'll have to determine for yourself. So, be critical of us, especially when we're critical of Tesla.

How did this event even come about? At Investors Day in January, Elon Musk promised that his taxis would be driving in Austin in June. What was perhaps not clear was that only true fans of the brand would be invited.

These aren't the vehicles Tesla had previously presented as two-door robo-taxis, but rather completely normal-looking Model Ys. This is an advantage that is also mentioned in the video above.

Waymo's Jaguar, on the other hand, has sensors on board that are likely considerably more expensive than the vehicle itself. Financially, Waymo is likely in a good position under Google's wing. Zooks, for example, likely benefits equally from Amazon.

Tesla has claimed for years that it can get by with just cameras as sensors. The test doesn't allow any conclusions, as it took place in glorious weather. Nevertheless, the rides were different from one with Waymo.

As we can see in the video above, neither the driver nor the passenger seat are occupied. The latter is then occupied by the customer. This wouldn't have been possible at Tesla, as an employee always sits there.

Additionally, there appears to be a monitoring system for each Tesla vehicle. One of the videos shows such a system with multiple monitors. This could be difficult if the number of robotaxis increases dramatically.

VW is driving in Hamburg, also with surveillance, this time in the driver's seat. But they're already talking about 5,000 to 10,000 autonomous vehicles, which would be needed to significantly reduce traffic congestion.

There were also reportedly escort vehicles, and the area Tesla is currently allowed to drive in Austin is about two to three times smaller than Waymo's. However, their taxis are said to be slightly more often delayed than regular ones, but are still popular.

In summary, it can be said that Waymo has far more experience, at least in Austin, Texas. The figure of the 10 millionth paid taxi ride, also mentioned by the Teslaboy in the video, speaks volumes.

In addition, the US Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) stepped in one day after the event and is now investigating violations of the rules that can be seen in the various videos.

We also saw a (previous) video where a Tesla crossed the double line and drove into the oncoming lane. The sudden emergency breakings when a police car is on the road are legendary.

The NHTSA is also investigating cases where speeding was violated, and we, too, have observed on video how a passenger was forced to get out of the car in the middle of a multi-lane road after pressing the emergency stop button.
