  Carburetor Adjustment



The suggestions on this page are theoretical constructions, not tested if being workable in practice. It is about classic cars equipped with carburetors, converted to Kat with lambda control or intended to do.

The issue is how to simplify adjustment of your carburetor(s). You need a way to get data from the lambda probe. This may happen when the probe is connected to a simple multimeter, possibly analog because of the inertia of its display. The actual system has reliably to be shut down and only the pure result of the original mixture preparation should be measured.

Ideal: One lambda probe for each carburetor.

If your system has more than one carburetor and has been calibrated for lots of money, you should find a way to save the basic settings (e.g. the number of turns of the screws). Then begin at idle speed and see if the change of a carburetor adjustment is reflected in the Lambda voltage. Then go to the next and continue by changing the fixed accelerator pedal position.


Significantly easier it is, for example at single register carburetors (pictured above). Here, one could risk, if the feedback is assured, even the replacement of nozzles, springs and/or change the position of needles depending on the type of carburetor(s).


For driving tests could be e.g. the second stage shut down completely. Below you can see a video with a lambda probe installation only for display purposes. It is clear visible in specific areas a need for optimization, if for example, the value falls below 12.0 during acceleration. A rebalancing can properly save fuel, but of course also improve performance. 09/16
