Tyre Pressure Control 5

Autolocation is the magic word that e.g. a VW Passat B7 separates from its predecessor. The electronics of the B7 can not do anything with the sensors of B6 (pictured above), because they tried a contact with them. This is a so-called 'intelligent' antenna, installed centrally in the rear part of the vehicle floor.

Besides the antenna also the sensor in the tire is 'intelligent'.

By different length of paths and thus the strength of the signals to the individual wheels, including spare wheel an assignment is possible. Equal 'weak' signals can be recognized by the direction of rotation. Anyway, the position of the sensor has no longer to be announced to the system, only the set pressure.

To determinate the direction of rotation the sensor in the tire contains two mini weights, which are each arranged between two piezos 90° to each other. Evaluated is the order in which pressure is applied to the individual sensors. Depending on the direction of rotation the position at 'Left' and 'Right' changes.

The old winter wheels with their sensors are therefore no longer usable in the newer Passat. By the way, mounting the new sensors, one has to look at the direction of the wheel rotating, just as at certain rims. In addition to pressure and temperature, the speed is transmitted. Unintented wheeling of the car, irritating the driver can be rigorously avoided by the braking system. 08/16
