The throttle plate is still in use. In case of an emergency and for testing the regenerating system, it - driven by an electric motor - generates the necessary negative pressure. Since the throttle plate is open in normal driving situations, it does no longer affect unfavorably the energy balance. This is ensured by the shaft to the right besides the cam shaft. It can be turned by the electric motor via the worm drive and affects the stroke, transferred directly by the cam shaft to the valves.
