The evaporating fuel and also possibly water injection absorbs a great deal of heat in the cylinder (-> internal cooling).
Earlier, the coolant could be circulated without a pump, simply through being heated by the engine and cooled by the radiator.
Air-sream cooling is loud, allows no regulation and is suitable only for smaller two-wheeled vehicles (mopeds).
