Seats - Oldtimer

If the car above has become an oldtimer and VW has no seat covers stockpiled, it might be difficult to retrofit. Should you not be satisfied with similar patterns, you have to order the product at a weaving company. But then you receive and pay for at least 30 of such vehicles. Now you know why, for example, there are classic car clubs.

Have a look at the seat side supports. In earlier times it was carried out in artificial leather, because in the long run they will wear off the most by many entries and exits. Leather is, although more expensive in new cars, in the reproduction much easier. Cloth material needs hardly care besides sucking and removing any stains, but fades in permanent sunlight. Mature leather will resist if greased periodically.

If you (hopefully without airbag) remove the seat and look from below, splices, bendable metal edges, metal staples or wire coatings are visible. With patience pulled of, foam appears. Missing pieces can be replaced by adhesive bonding. You have to cut suitably both the seat and the replacement part with preferably the same hardness.

The highest respect earns, who also can put seams optically perfectly and properly, parallel and with equal penetration length. The same problem as with a (new) steering wheel cover. After sketching out with tailor's chalk may be chosen: by hand with a lot of time and patience or with the machine, with which, however, some experience is necessary. 09/16
