Oblique and lateral-drift angle
Oblique angle
The oblique angle refers to the respective wheel. It describes the angle between the steered wheel (red line) and its directional movement, or between the steered wheel and the vehicle itself (green line). A certain
amount of wheel-slant is necessary, to enable the wheel to build up cornering forces. The comparison between the oblique angle at the front and at the rear, decides whether the vehicle under- or oversteers.
Lateral-drift angle
The lateral drift angle is the angle between the directional movement- (green line) and the longitudinal axis of the vehicle (blue line). The smaller this angle is, also when steering abruptly, the more sports car feeling it
projects. 12/09
