Drum brake with S-shaped cams
The above picture shows (when solved), a cut-out detail of a truck-wheel drum-brake with the inductive transmitter-ring (ABS) and the wheel bearing. The brake-shoes are swivel-mounted at the bottom and spread apart
at the top by an S-shaped roller cam which works against the force of a strong high-tension spring. The brake shoes themselves, are made from cast iron and have a total of 8 pads, each fastened with 16 rivets onto
the brake shoe. The stable construction and also the lower bearing mountings give an idea of the forces at work when braking in a truck, in contrast to the forces when braking in the motor car. 05/10
