First petrol injection pump
In 1954, the first injection pump for petrol four-stroke engines was produced in series. It was derived from
the diesel injection pump and provided in the Mercedes 300 SL for gasoline direct injection. It was followed by a whole series of mechanical-hydraulic injection pumps. The development continued through pumps with
space
cams - a kind of mechanical characteristic - and ended with the continuous injection.
In 1967 it received competition in the form of electronic gasoline injection. The exhaust gas purification finally
terminated the
development of mechanical-hydraulic systems. 09/09
