Hypoid Drive
Here, the complete hypoid final-drive, possibly with gasket, is inserted from the front into the basket of the rear axle and then bolted together. Thus, it can be exchanged when defective or if the gear-ratio is to be
changed, without having to re-adjust the play between the bevel- and crown wheel. In the case of a rigid axle, the axle shafts
can now be pushed in from the outside. With independent suspension, the final drive is bolted onto the the car body and receives only short shafts with plates to take up the axle drive shafts.
