This representation of the drive at the rear axle exhibits extraordinary features. First there is the direction of rotation, which cannot originate from a clockwise rotating engine with a same axle transmission. The somewhat unusual direction of rotation comes from the four-wheel drive with automatic transmission. Moreover the exact fitting of the final drive into the floor of the body is remarkable. The bearing of the final drive should not be too soft, because otherwise it produces knocking sounds in certain driving conditions. The intensive case ripping with poured cavities is a nice example of an aluminium alloy lightweight construction.
The long ratio keeps the crown wheel in comparison to the pinion gear small and saves volume. Someone watching more precisely may even recognize a relatively complicated ventilation system.
