Petrol Injection 1
The word injection is always used when the
fuel is added to the air under pressure. The
first fuel injection
in the car dates back to the year 1951. Before it was already used for a long time in airplanes. In contrast to the
diesel injection system the fuel is being sprayed in the petrol-driven car to achieve a quick and good mixture. There are only three positions for injectors,
individually in front of the inlet manifold, several times at its end or directly pointing into the combustion chamber.
System pressure of different systems |
Single Point Injection | up to 1 bar |
Multi Point Injection | up to 4 bar |
Direct Injection | starting at 150 bar |
Protecting the environment, the petrol tank is hermetically sealed nowadays. The fuel is pumped through an inside electrical module. The filter lies
underneath the vehicle floor.
Fresh and cool fuel is pressed through to the injectors. Excess petrol runs back either from the injection fillet or already from the fuel filter.
To avoid bursting of the tank due to the high fuel pressure, it is led via a canister control. The fuel tanks are often formed very awkward, so that every small corner is used. Nevertheless, tanks from steel might, in the
meantime, be implemented because they are totally closed.
The future for petrol engines might very well be shiny because crude oil always contains petrol next to the ever popular diesel oil. The trend already for relatively
small engines is towards direct injection, allowing the costs to rise slowly in the direction of diesel engines. The absolutely necessary fuel consumption saving is reached by specific air flows, possibly
combined with supercharging and precise compression end pressures. 04/08
