Clutch 10 - Clutch Controller
Function
The release bearing should transfer the force of the clutch release lever or directly (picture) onto the rotating clutch pressure plate (plate spring).
How it works
Release bearings must take up large axial forces. In earlier times a minor amount of play provided with not-engaged clutch pedal for standstill during a normal trip. It rotated only while letting in the clutch. Because of
an improved protection against wear today's release bearings can always co-rotate.
The hydraulic clutch operation may feature a slave cylinder that can be centrally integrated into the release bearing.
Important
Long lasting flooring of the clutch, e.g., before a red traffic light strains the release bearing, the clutch disc, and the axial bearing of the crankshaft needlessly. 05/08
