Assistant - Voice-input

In the past, that which at first seemed not possible, because of the lack of know-how and technology, is nowadays, a particularly suitable option for the automobile. Since then, not only can one keep his/her hands on the wheel, his/her eyes can also be kept on the road. At the same time however, the demands made on the driver are higher than those made, e.g., when using a cell-phone in the sitting room. One concentrates less on speaking and the background noises can also be distracting.

That which is particularly familiar to a person, is much more difficult for the machine. Very early, it was able to cope with a limited number of commands. If in addition, it could be trained to react to the respective user's voice, quick results were possible. In the meantime however, an enormous vocabulary is required, e.g., in the case of the navigation, and this without any training at all.

The complete address in one continuous statement?

Make yourself familiar with the phonemes. These are sounds, which on the one hand, mean something, and on the other hand, when put together, make up a language, the so to speak, smallest spoken unit. If the number of words to be recognised is unlimited, the voice-input system must break down the random written words into phonemes, which must then be examined, with reference to the voice-input, to find similarities. After that, it's a matter of creating a dialogue which is as refined as possible. 03/14
